Today my oldest learned the cruel reality of how grown-ups can be mean bullies to children they don't even know. While playing at a local place frequently used for kids' birthday parties, my daughter was involved in a near-miss with another child while playing. The mom of the other child walked up and screamed at my kid, causing her to nearly have an anxiety attack because she couldn't understand why the adult was so mean to her. Rather than simply explaining to my daughter in a calm, parental tone that she needed to be more careful, she verbally assaulted a child that she didn't even know. If it weren't for another friend of mine witnessing this, I would have simply thought that my child had exaggerated the adult's behavior. My friend was appalled to learn that the woman who gave my child the verbal tongue-lashing was not someone related to her as she had assumed when she witnessed this event.
I am trying to find the blessing in this and I suppose that it's that my husband didn't have to post bail for me this evening, as I never had a chance to confront my child's overgrown bully.
After telling my daughter that no one has the right to yell at her like that, I simply told her that the lady is just mean...

You, with your words like knives
And swords and weapons that you use against me
You have knocked me off my feet again
Got me feeling like a nothing
You, with your voice like nails on a chalkboard
Calling me out when I'm wounded
You picking on the weaker man
